“The Nearness of You,“ written in 1938 by Hoagy Carmichael and Ned Washington, for the Paramount film Romance in the Dark, was recorded by Frank Sinatra on 3 occasions: a radio broadcast on July 20, 1940, August 11, 1947 with arrangement and orchestration by Axel Stordahl, and March 2, 1960 arranged and conducted by Nelson Riddle. Here is the second version released on the Columbia label as a single and included on CD Portrait of Sinatra: Columbia Classics, a compilation album, released in 1997 on Sony.
